decisions, decisions

this week marks my decision to move to thailand next year. i've always wanted to improve my language skills, but the prospect of moving to a completely different environment alone (even though i have family there) was really scary.

so! lots of planning to do. my first major decision will be to decide how i will spend my time there productively. the thai studies program at chulalongkorn university seems like a perfect fit, since it has courses in language, economics, literature, etc. i thought i was kind of done with school for a bit, but i guess why not just go for the masters! oy.

the semesters work differently there though, so instead of the january departure date i had in mind, i think we will do a may departure for a semester that begins in june. while it seems a ways away, the later departure will give us more time to save up (because let's be honest that american dollar is, despite its worth elseware, still much more valuable than the baht), and now we don't have to worry so much about subletting our place (just getting rid of all of our stuff!).

anyways, a little info on chulalongkorn. it's in bangkok (where most of my dad's family lives) and is one of the oldest universities in thailand, founded by the king in 1916. the school color is pink because each day of the week has a color assigned to it and that particular king was born on tuesday, which is pink!
