kasetsart university's international program (aka satit kaset) sent me an application to teach at their elementary school. they offer their teachers salary as well as fringe benefits (medical, airfare reimbursement, monthly travel and living stipends, etc.). the more i think about working there, the more into it i am. it will be nice to move and be completely busy and challenged... instead of putzing around like i intended (kidding!).anyway, the curriculum is taught in english but native speakers, so this would actually be a perfect position, especially since i'm certified to teach now. oh, and did i mention that the headmaster is the sister of my mom's friend? i heard she is a tough cookie, but i am fully open to favoritism/connections working on my behalf for once.
from what i've been reading, it is difficult to get a job ahead of time, so going over knowing i'll be working right away, as well as being reimbursed for my airfare, would definitely be a weight lifted. the problem grants like fulbright had with me is that i have family in my destination country, so ideally i should be able to get a job and stuff more easily, right?! well, ideally i'd like to just go and study language, but hey, it'll actually be very beneficial to my resume when i get back if i show that i didn't take a three year break.
in the meantime, i am off to pittsburgh for the weekend and my first major long haul drive alone. there are also plans in the works now to go to russia in december, so i can update my trip calendar once again!
