Blood, Sweat & Laughter!

WOW. So much stuff going on the past few weeks, we've barely had time to sleep. Juan, Jen and Alvaro were out for a short week, mostly spent installing in the silk screening factory. Because of the "red shirt" protests scheduled last week, I had Friday and Monday off to spend free size style!

AMERICA!

Thursday night was the free size pre-party at Shades of Retro. Leo hooked it up with an LCD projection of Alvaro jukin across the street! The best part was listening to Alvaro explain what "jukin" is to people at the party. Super seriously.

Then this Thai cable tv host from Asia What Up? showed up to interview everyone about the show.

What do you do after spending all day working in the hot heat and all night drinking???

Bamee kai on Ekkamai!!!

This spot is usually popping after bar closing, but the city was super quiet due to the foreshadowed "red shirt" protests. This worked in our favor because if stuff was open, it wasn't super packed and traffic was pretty nonexistent!

Since I had Friday off, I spent it running errands here and there for Logan. I wore my totally Thai outfit to get to the factory because I didn't want to get jacked by the motorcy dudes outside of the Tesco where the van from the city dropped me off.

There was a kid hanging at the factory, sucking on a bottle and hiding behind a blankey while everyone was working. Once he put the bottle and blanket away, we became best buds and threw a pool party!

me + nong bpen + jen = FUN!

Well, he partied while we worriedly surrounded him in case he slipped!

Everyone stayed out late at the factory Friday night before the opening. We thought we might hit up the local markets with some fliers, but all the markets were closed in fear of the protests. We ended up having to have dinner at a Dutch beer hall/Thai dinner (amphi)theater called Holland because nothing was open, and we took a U-turn ramp on accident.

Starving artists will work for pork leg!

FREE SIZE crew final install night dinner.

To sum up our experience at the Holland Beer Brewery: baby roaches, panda thong, YMCA, jumbo screen live video feed heart cam, 5L beer tower, deep fried pork legs, NONSTOP LIVE COVERBAND!

It was either the best or worst experience we've had so far in Thailand.

Opening day finally came, and our buddy Nong Bpen was there to greet us at the factory in the morning...

The best thing to come out of the Holland Brewery was this dancing giraffe Juan+Alvaro bequeathed me. BEST.PRESENT.EVER! Plus, he fits the mini-free size t-shirt perfectly! (videos to follow!)

Since the show was out in boo-foo, proper signage was essential...

Thai people kept on thinking Alvaro was Thai because he has the Ayutthaya look!

Each artist participating in the show designed a t-shirt to be screened for free at the opening. Jen and Alvaro also designed some awesome totes that were silk screened and manufactured at Sinudom (the factory):

Tuuk! (Cheap!)

One of our favorite bartenders in Thailand is in love with Jen's work. I think he fell in real love when he finally got to meet her, so this picture is like a dream come true...

Jen + Boy = RAINBOW LOVE

In total Thai time style, the reception ended a couple of hours later than projected. Everyone was super tired, but very happy with the outcome.
